My Little Pony: Equestria Girls-Rainbow Rocks

I don’t know a lot about the My Little Pony franchise except what I see on TV and that Lizzy really loves them. A new My Little Pony is out, and Lizzy and I headed to the theater. The movie is full of music and colors and has as its signature, “Friendship is Magic”; all the things that Lizzy and others love about the show. I was going into the theater expecting that I would be the only guy and that the audience would be mostly young girls. Totally wrong. The theater was packed, but there were only 5 girls, including Lizzy; the rest were mostly young men, I would estimate between 16 and 30 or so. It turns out this is my first direct experience with the “Bronie” subculture. I have to say it felt odd – these guys seem to know the lyrics to the songs, the details of the plot lines, the life histories of every character; there was a lot of laughing (Lizzy leaned over and asked me several times what was so funny), and there were two rounds of thunderous applause at the end (and only one person left before the end of the credits). I give it a thumbs up for the movie; I cannot argue when Lizzy found it so wonderful. I give a big thumbs up for the experience – I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. Next My Little Pony movie – Lizzy and I are there. (2014; 3 Stars)
