Harry and Snowman

Attention all horse lovers – this is a must see movie! This is a documentary of Harry deLeyer who rescued a horse headed for the glue factory and trained that horse to become a champion jumper. I thought the movie really wonderful. Harry is still alive, so they filmmakers were able to mix present-day interviews and archival still and video footage of Harry’s family and Snowman as he became a champion. The film also gives interesting insight into Harry, an immigrant from Europe who was completely self-taught and success driven. There is also some interesting history of championship horse jumping. Big thumbs up from me for a different slice of history and a film that pays homage to horses and their riders. I just wish there was more information about his family – there were only 3 of the 8 children who appeared to have been part of the film.
