Pete (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) along with Drax, Rocket Racoon, and Baby Groot, return as the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Guardians slay a ridiculous monster and, on their way out, Rockett steals some very important batteries that are worth a lot of money on the black market. In their escape, they run into Ego (played by Kurt Russell), who says he is Pete’s father. At its core, the movie is about uncovering the story of Ego. The music was great (there could have been more of it), the colors and action were almost always quite dazzling, and of course, there were plenty of corny jokes and pop psychology references to fill the movie. The movie gets distracted at times with too many side stories, and sometimes the pop psychology gets old, but I still found the movie to be a very entertaining diversion on a long weekend. Thumbs up for a movie that isn’t as good as the first one but still gives its share of laughs and is a good story about family. And it is always fun to hear a lot of young kids giggling up a storm during a movie.
