Four women – Sasha (Queen Latifah), a writer of tabloid exploitation articles; Ryan (Regina Hall), a highly successful writer married to an ex-pro football star; Dina (Tiffany Haddish), a wildly emotional woman who recently was fired from her job for hitting a fellow employee; and Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith), a straight-laced, single mom living with two kids and her mom – reunite from college to enjoy a weekend in New Orleans. And New Orleans had no idea what was in store for it. This movie is hilarious and full of ribald humor – I don’t think I have laughed as hard or for such sustained periods of time since Bridesmaids. All 4 women are fantastic and craft very likeable yet different personalities, but Tiffany Haddish – wow! That woman has a potty-mouth that goes non-stop and kept me in stitches. It was also great fun seeing Pinkett Smith’s character suddenly bust out of her shell, and Queen Latifah has the most awesome hair styles. Threaded through the humor is a strong story of friendship, sisterhood, and women’s empowerment. Big thumbs up from me for a movie that tells a story with a powerful message in a very funny way. The humor in this movie is really dirty, so it won’t appeal to everyone, but if you want to see 4 women of color totally own the screen and hold their own in the raunchy comedy genre, go see this!
