The third in the Lego movie series finds Lloyd, member of a secret ninja society led by Master Wu and son of the terrible Garmadon, the evil warlord trying to conquer the city in which Lloyd lives, trying to save the city from his father’s wrath. Gamadon doesn’t know Lloyd (who he calls L-loyd) is his son, and Llloyd, who is made fun of because he is Gamadon’s son, wants a real father-son relationship. The movie is about the paths of father and son in the conquest of/saving the city. I have to say that, overall, I am disappointed in the film. The first two movies were very creative, full of psychological innuendo, and fun for kids and adults alike. This one felt rather stale to me; there were some places where there are laughs, but you laugh and then immediately feel embarrassed for laughing at something pulled off so poorly. Everything felt “borrowed” from other stories. I give it a thumbs-up, only because it seems to be a visually fun movie for kids (while I am not sure they totally get the laughs). But hey, isn’t any movie fun when you are a kid and you have one of your best friends sitting next to you eating popcorn and drinking coke?
